One Thing Discipleship Year at Grace Church Nottingham

One Thing is a discipleship year designed to deepen your relationship with Jesus and centre your whole life around following Him. Through serving as part of our staff team, getting hands on with ministries in the church, and theological teaching and training, the One Thing year will push you and shape you as a disciple of Jesus.

Why ‘One Thing’?

Why ‘One Thing’?

At its heart, the One Thing year is rooted in the prayer of Psalm 27: “one thing have I asked of the Lord, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” This year-long programme is all pointing to that and helps you learn how to live it out in your day to day walk with Jesus.

In setting aside a year to seek God and serve his church, you’re giving an emphatic ‘yes’ to Him and His leading of your life. As much as you’ll grow, get to try things, and step into leadership through the year, time and time again we find that the deepest work of all is what God does in your heart.

What does it look like?

The year runs part time from September to July, with your One Thing days being Monday and Tuesday. There is no cost for the year but usually those on the One Thing year work part time during the rest of the week to cover their living costs.

One Thing is designed to give you an insight into the behind the scenes of church life and give you opportunities to grow and thrive. You work as part of our staff team within a specific ministry area, helping to run, plan and develop it. You’d work alongside a staff mentor who helps develop your unique gifting and relationship with Jesus. Each week includes teaching on different aspects of following Jesus, staff meetings with the team, and serving in midweek ministries. You can also do the One Thing year as part of one of the other churches in our Grace Connection family of churches, including our most recent church plants.
